What’s in a Name?

September 11, 2009 | | 33 Comments

People get their names in all sorts of interesting ways.  Some are named after family members, fictional characters, months, or even flowers.  Some parents choose a name for it’s meaning.  Some names have very simple stories while others have complex ones.

My story is pretty simple.  My name, Angela, comes from my grandmother, Angelina.  My parents named me after her.  My name means, ‘like an angel.’ Some people would agree with the meaning of my name while others would probably get a pretty good laugh out of it!

What is your name?  Where did your name come from?  How did your parents decide what to name you?  What does your name mean?  You may have to ask your parents first if you have never talked about this!

My name Eraloth is parts of my dad’s name and my mom’s name. Era is from my dad’s name which is Rannie, and loth is from my mom’s name. I’m ususally called Era though because it’s easier and Eraloth is a very weird name to me. I am proud of it though.

Hey Ciena! It’s great to hear from you! I would love to have you stop by and visit. Just so you know, your e-mail account is no longer active through solia unless one of your middle school teachers set you up with one. So, if you don’t have another e-mail, get your mom’s permission and get a free account through yahoo, hotmail, google, or something like that. Let me know if you get another e-mail address and I’d be happy to correspond with you!

Mt mom told me that she gave me the name Isana Rain because the first part Isana was after my great grandma Anna. The second part Rain after her middle name Larain and since there’s already been an Anna Larain in the family she changed it a little.

Hi Mrs Kulikowski’s class. I was named Pamela after my cousin – I think she was my mum’s favourite niece! It is apparently from Greek, and means “honey” or “all sweetness”. I think some of my family might have something to say about that!

  28.    Hiba on November 22, 2009 4:27 pm

Well, my parents have always told me, and almost everyone they know, that my name means a gift from God. Although, I don’t really know where my name came from. But I think that my parents just looked in the baby name book in the hospital and picked Hiba. So, I don’t think that my name has a very interesting background. Only if you count your parents choosing your name out of name book.
